Just in case you haven’t been following GG – we’ve just
returned from a 2 week trip to the Dominican Republic. We weren’t quite sure
what to expect when we returned to Galveston but our garden kind of went “nuts”
while we were gone. The tomato plants doubled in size. The peppers are
peppering and the squash and zucchini are kicking butt too.
It took a little effort to get the tomato plants back in
their cages but things are looking pretty good. We continue to have some
nutritional deficiency problems (mostly nitrogen) despite several fertilizer
applications. Our sandy soil just doesn’t retain much in the way of plant
nutrients. The irrigation system worked well while we were gone and there were
no apparent loses due to drought. So all in all we were very pleased with the
results.
And now the best part. Our friends came by while we were
gone and harvested an eggplant or two and a few tomatoes. Today, we harvested
several peppers and 2 baskets of tomatoes. Some cherries, some roma’s. BY FAR
the best tasting tomato we have is the SWEET 100 cherry. They’re like candy!!!
Oh – BTW, looks like we’ll have figs this year too.
Hope your garden is growing well!!!
