A few weeks ago I gave our perennials and other landscape plant materials a pretty good whack job. This activity always makes me a little nervous because things look so different once they've been severely cut back. But it's a necessary part of spring gardening preparations.
On February 21st I cut the Esperanza back to about 18" and the Pride of Barbados to about 24". Just a few befores and afters to show how things are coming back.

The temperatures have been pretty much ideal and combined with recent rainfall the new growth is impressive.
