Galveston Gardening Happy Hour...

Over the last couple of years I've become acquainted with several Galveston Gardeners. Not surprisingly, most of these folks have  things in common.

Generally speaking...

They enjoy gardening (duh...)

They like talking about their garden

They look forward to sharing gardening info and experiences- and

They also enjoy a frosty beverage now and then

That's when it hit me...
Why not combine all of these common interests in to some kind of garden gathering. That's how the Galveston Gardening Happy Hour (GGHH) concept began.

It's not a club, organization, volunteer group or society. No dues, membership fees or entrance requirements. Just a group of folks getting together to discuss gardening on this tiny sliver of land we call Galveston Island (Oh BTW - mainlanders ALWAYS welcome!!!). While, of course, enjoying a beverage of choice.

I've done some preliminary research and it seems like between yoga, choir practice, dance lessons, fishing, football and work - Wednesdays are the best night for the GGHH (knowing in advance that Wednesday will suck for someone). Each month (assuming there's more than one of these events) I'll post the location and details on the Galveston Gardening Blog and send out an invitation via Facebook.

The Wizard 2325 Church St
January GGHH...
The first Galveston Gardening Happy Hour will take place on Wednesday - January 18th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. at the Wizard (2325 Church St). Glynda Oglesby, long time GG Blog subscriber and owner of the Wizard just re-opened following severe Ike damage. This GGHH will also help celebrate/welcome Glynda and the Wizard back in to business.

There won't be any formal presentations or speeches. Just informal conservation and garden BS. GGHH participants are "encouraged" (but certainly not required) to bring stuff like...

Pictures of your yard or garden...
(Mine are on my phone)

Plants to share or be identified...
(I've got some bulbs that need a good home)

Plant problems...
(I'll have a scope set up for a close look at bugs and other critters)

I'm also hitting up some of my old nursery buddies to provide a few new plant releases for us to check out. Towards the end of the evening we'll raffle them off as door prizes. Plus any other goodies I can come up with.

Hope you can make it...
