Moody Gardens Visit...

Although there is a subtle difference between frugal and cheap, I like to think the former applies to our spending habits. So last weekend, when Moody Gardens offered FREE entry to Galveston residents, naturally we took advantage of the opportunity to visit.

We love the aquarium and were especially anxious to see the Rainforest Pyramid and new Canopy Walk. It was a beautiful, chamber of commerce day in G-ton and I don't remember ever seeing Moody Gardens look better (certainly post-Ike).

We made our way to the Rainforest entrance and were amazed and impressed with the modifications/changes that had been implemented since our last visit. I know Donita and some of the horticultural staff were disappointed that the canopy walk construction destroyed some of the specimen plants - but the results do not disappoint.

The diverse selection of plants were in excellent shape. Despite the loss of some of trees, the palm collection is still world class. There are more birds and animals than I remembered from previous visits but their enclosures blend in well with the surroundings. We spent the better part of 2 hours looking at plants and generally enjoying ourselves.

Next we made our way to the aquarium where we spent another hour touring.

At the end of the day we were reminded of how lucky we are to have such a unique resource here on Galveston Island.
