The Spike Dilema...

Anyone that has read this blog, on even a semi-IRregular basis, knows that our yard is very small. That means every square foot counts. So here's the dilema.

Tucked in a very prominent corner of the yard we have a homemade cement slab with the name SPIKE written on it. So - putting 2 and 2 together here, I assume that one of the previous owners buried their beloved pet in the garden and marked it with a headstone, that obviously took some effort to create. We have no way of knowing if Spike was a cat or a dog (or a ferret for that matter) or any other details. The marker does have a date, so we know that Spike has been resting comfortably in our yard for the last 7 years.

So - what's the statute of limitation on a previous home owners pet headstone? Is it WRONG to remove the stone and plant something in this area? What if I accidently "bump in to Spike" while digging? Is there some kind of forensic CSI unit for something like this?

We had our dog Dot (a Springer Spaniel) for 13 years. When her time came I buried her in a backyard flower bed. I'd hate to think that someone was messing with her final resting place - so what do I  do about Spike?

These are all question I have pondered for some time - hence the dilemma. Your thoughts and comments appreciated...
